EA Cancels Open-World Star Wars And Fans Are Pissed

By Austin Wilson | @TheAustinPost1

Electronic Arts has, once again, pissed off the
gaming community. This time by cancelling the
very anticipated open-world Star Wars game that
was being developed by EA Vancouver.

The game was originally announced as a single
player game being developed by Dead Space
creators, Visceral studio, under the name project
Ragtag, which was described Star Wars meets
Uncharted. However, after the developer was
shut down by EA in October 2017, Ragtag was
transferred to EA Vancouver who renamed it Orca
and remodeled it as an open-world game that would
be better suited for the publishers ‘games as service’
model. EA was most likely planning to do to Orca
what they envisioned for Star Wars: Battlefront 2
and turn the game into a Star Wars themed online
casino.

After being silent on Orca for over a year, EA
announced it is cancelling the project. Kotaku’s
Jason Schreier reported that EA, “cancelled Orca in
favor of a smaller-scale Star Wars project Star Wars
project that’s now aimed for much sooner- likely late
2020, which also happens to be around the time that
I’ve heard next-gen consoles will launch.”

EA had project orca scrapped so that they could
create another Star Wars game which will likely
be lower quality and carry micro transactions.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson took over Electronic Arts
in 2013,just after his predecessor John Riccitiello
struck a deal with Disney for a ten exclusive license
to make Star Wars games. Wilson has been vocal on
his desire to focus EA’s attention on properties the
publisher owns. Jason Schreier reported “When it
uses Frostbite, EA doesn’t have to pay licensing fees
or deal with technical support at a competing
engine-maker like Epic.”

Gamers and Star Wars fans believe that EA receiving
the exclusive rights to create Star Wars video games
was one of the worst business decisions Disney has
made and it seems EA is obsessed with proving them
right.

Twitter user Erik Woolsey posted a tweet comparing
the Star Wars games produced by LucasArts between
2002-2006 and games produced by EA from
2013-2017. Since obtaining the exclusive license, EA
has only published two Star Wars games within the
past four years, with each game receiving below
average ratings from the gaming community.

The gaming community is frustrated with EA and
has been calling for Disney to strip the publisher of
it's license and give it to another publisher or
multiple indie developers. Unfortunately, the
agreement between Electronic Arts and Disney is a
ten year contract, which expires in 2023.

We can only hope that the agreement has some kind
of loophole that gives Disney the potential to take
the license away before EA can continue to tarnish
the good name of Star Wars for another five years.

Dragon Ball Super: Broly (A No Spoilers Review)

PLEASE NOTE:
I am a HUGE fan of the Dragon Ball franchise but I know that some people aren't. If your not a fan or haven't watched too much of Dragon Ball Super, you might be a little confused by the story and I wouldn't recommend you go see this movie. Now that I've said that, LETS BEGIN!!!

I went to go see the new Dragon Ball Super movie yesterday and oh my god it was amazing. I have to admit that I was skeptical about the creators retconning Broly, but I approve of how director Tatsuya Nagamine approached his character.

The first thing I'd like note is that this movie has nothing to do with the previous three Broly movies. The only similarity between the older movies and this one is that Frieza destroys Planet Vegeta. That's it. This is a complete revision of Broly's character. Don't go see this movie with the expectation that it's a continuation of the original trilogy.

That being said, this movie is amazing. My eyes were glued to screen the entire  time. The story, witting jokes, the scenery of the fights, the battle music and battle itself were nothing short of spectacular. I love that we get to see a little more of what life was like on Planet Vegeta and why Frieza felt he needed to destroy it. We see a little more of Bardock and King Vegeta and how they act as fathers. The movie also canonized Vegeta's younger brother, Tarble, after the destruction of Planet Vegeta, where a saiyan survivor asks Kid Vegeta about his younger brothers.

My only complaint is with the CGI. I loathe CGI in anime but it wasn't bad in this movie. I still think this movie would be a success without it.

Another thing I like about DBS Broly is that we don't see it from Goku's perspective. Most of the screen time out of fighting is devoted to Broly and his character development. There are moments where we see the heroes perspective, but this is Broly's movie we see it mostly from his point of view.

The battle itself is 30 to 40 minutes of action packed awesomeness. This movie has the best fight scenes than any other movie in the franchise. Just when you think it's over and someone lost, they power up and get right back into the fight. The movie also explains why Broly can go toe to toe against two super saiyan gods as a non super saiyan and absolutely destroy them when he turns into one.

As you saw in the trailer, Goku and Vegeta have to do the fusion dance and transform into Gogeta to defeat Broly and even with their power combined, the battle was a challenge for the heroes.

I'm giving this movie a solid 9/10. DBS Broly was nothing short of spectacular. My only real complaint was with the CGI but it wasn't too noticeable and the movie was so good that I can overlook it. I'd strongly recommend this movie to anyone who's a fan of Dragon Ball franchise.

Soulja Boy Is Selling A New Console… And It’s A PS Vita Knockoff

By Austin Wilson | @TheAustinPost1

If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.

Soulja Boy is starting off 2019 by selling a new
Chinese knockoff emulator. Except this time, it
looks like the PlayStation Vita.

The new SouljaGame Handheld is available on
SouljaWatch for $100.

Soulja Boy is using the same sales strategy he
tried with the original SouljaGame products by
claiming that the SouljaGame Handheld is on
sale for 50% off, but the product has never
actually been sold for the $200 price tag.

In December of 2018, Soulja Boy attempted to
sell emulators with roms of Nintendo games,
only to take them off after Nintendo threatened
the former rapper with a lawsuit.

Features of the Souljagame Handheld include a
built-in camera, tv output for games and movies,
480 x 272 resolution, and the ability to
“watch e-books.”

There are no listings for games available on the
SouljaGame Handheld but it's assumed that it
comes pre-installed with (probably illegal) roms.

Given it's resemblance with the PlayStation Vita
and the possibility of containing Sony titles, it's
likely that Sony will launch an investigation and
force Soulja Boy to remove the console from his
online store like Nintendo did a month ago.

Surprisingly, the SouljaGame Handheld is currently
sold out on his online store, but you can buy the
exact same item on AliExpress for $33.59 without
the Soulja Boy brand.

Update (01/17/19)
The SouljaWatch online store is currently down. Clicking
on the link in this story will send you to a page that says
“This shop is unavailable.”

Soulja Boy claims his website was hacked by
his ex-cameraman and is asking his fans to contact Shopify
to help restore his site.

Witcher Geralt Coming To Monster Hunter: World!

By Austin Wilson| @TheAustinPost1 |

Geralt of Rivia is coming to a new world.
Monster Hunter: World to be exact!

Capcom and CD Projekt Red are partnering up for a
crossover event bringing the Witcher’s White Wolf
himself to Monster Hunter: World.

The new free DLC content will be available for
download next month on February 8th for PS4 and
Xbox One. Content for PC will be arriving at a later
unspecified date.

Monster Hunter Official Twitter revealed that the
player will play as Geralt of Rivia instead of their
character on several new missions and using the
Witcher's exclusive monster hunting gear.

Hopefully the gear from the Witcher Event are
better than gear from previous events.

It has not been confirmed whether or not we will
get to cast signs or see new monsters in the DLC.

The Witcher DLC is the second event update of many
coming to Monster Hunter: World in 2019, following
the Appreciation Festival Event going on from
January 26th to February 22nd, and preceding the
Ach-tempered Nergigante Event in spring.

The only information we have on the Arch-tempered
Nergigante Event is that the monster is very powerful
and will lead to a gamma armor set.

Bungie Divorces Activision And Takes Baby Destiny With Her.

By Austin Wilson | @TheAustinPost1

Bungie, along with Activision Blizzard, said
in a joint statement that developer and
publisher would be ending their 8 year
relationship, with Bungie keeping all rights to
the Destiny franchise. The statement reads,
“Today, were announcing plans for Bungie to
assume full publishing rights and
responsibilities for the Destiny franchise.”

Bungie also posted a separate statement on
their official website.

Bungie announced on twitter that Destiny 2
will continue to be active on the BattleNet,
stating “Destiny 2 will still receive full support
on BattleNet and we do not anticipate any
disruptions to our services or your gameplay
experience.”

Whether or not Activision Blizzard will
continue this support after finalizing the
divorce remains to be seen.

The relationship between the developer and
publisher has been rocky since the beginning
in 2010, with both Bungie and Activision
having different perspectives on which
direction they wanted the Destiny franchise
to go. While Bungie seems to be more focused
on player experience, Activision has always
been driven by profit.

An example of this tension would be their
different points of views on the success of
Destiny 2's Forsaken DLC, where the
developers were pleased at the positive
reviews from players but their publisher
was disappointed in sales.

In a tweet, Kotaku editor Jason Schreier
reported that Bungie staff were literally
cheering at the announcement that they’d
be free from their controlling relationship
with their publisher.

What does this mean for Destiny? While
Bungie has had many issues in managing
the title, it’s becoming more of a possibility
that Destiny 2 will begin to stray away from
the ‘games as service’ model pushed by
Activision and players may see a decline of
in-game purchases in future updates. Another
possibility is the opposite route, where the
game plagued by even more micro transactions
to make up for the additional costs of being
their own publisher.

Destiny fans and gamers around the world
agree that this is the best move for Bungie
and are eager to see what the developer has
in store for the future.

A Middle Finger To Fans: Sequel To Alien: Isolation Is A Phone Game

By Austin Wilson| @TheAustonPost1

After the success of Creative Assembly’s
horror survival game Alien: Isolation,
which was seen by many as the redeemer
of the previous game of the franchise
Gearbox Software’s Aliens: Colonial Marines,
fans of the franchise were eagerly hoping
for a sequel to the popular title.

On January 5th 2019, fans were excited
to see a post on the Alien official twitter
attached with a 30 second video, believing
it to be the announcement they had been
waiting four years for.

Two days later on the 7th, fans went from
beyond excited to deeply enraged when
Alien: Blackout was announced for mobile.

On the game developer D3Go!'s website,
the description for the game states on the
last sentence, "Alien: Blackout is a unique
fear-inducing horror premium mobile game
experience that will test the inner nerves of
both Alien and horror fans alike, where life
can end in an instant."

Fans angry over the mobile game’s reveal
and took to Social Media to express their
disappointment.

The gameplay features aren’t much to calm
fans either as Alien: Blackout uses the same
concept as Five Nights At Freddy's. The
gameplay description reads, “Using only the
space station’s limited power supply to
operate a holographic map, surveillance
cameras, and motion tracker, attempt to
remain hidden and protect your crew from
the perfect hunter in seven fear-inducing
levels.”

The YouTube trailer for Alien: Blackout is
currently sitting at 801 likes and 29 thousand
dislikes.

The fires of rage never died down from
Blizzard’s own controversy, when the
studio faced similar outrage during Blizzcon,
when it showed the reveal trailer for
Diablo Immortal on mobile, whose YouTube
trailer has over 720 thousand dislikes.

It appears that Fox would prefer to follow
in Blizzards footsteps and make a cash
grab mobile game which will most likely be
filled with in-game purchases than a quality
game made for loyal fans of the franchise.
